The COVID-19 pandemic has sent shock waves around the world and disrupted global production and supply chains, resulting in a trade plunge of unprecedented proportions.

Despite the rapid response by African countries, well-known structural vulnerabilities such as high dependency on imports and weak production have overexposed African countries to the economic consequences of the pandemic. This has sparred the debate on how the pandemic will affect trade in the region (and Africa) including production and supply chain decisions by companies as well as policy responses by Governments.
