Despite great strides in economic growth and increased women in leadership in the region, significant gender gaps remain. Gender inequality remains a significant impediment to growth and well-being across East Africa. Women face differential barriers in access to markets, capital, training, and technologies. Women are also underrepresented in decision- making spheres at all levels. This limits them from reaching their full potential and fully contributing to their countries' economies.

A recent joint report done by the World Bank and the World Trade Organization - Women and Trade: The Role of Trade in Promoting Women's Equality – shows that just as trade has been the engine of poverty reduction, it too has the potential with the right policies to provide the engine to reduce the gender gap.

The AmCham Women in Business Leadership forum provides a platform for thought leadership on enhancing women inclusion in business leadership and Trade.

The forum will discuss, among other issues:

  1. The role of Public – Private Partnership in driving inclusive trade.
  2. The role of Multinational Corporations in spearheading inclusive trade through diversification of their supply/value chains.
  3. Solutions to existing capacity and finance gaps to support inclusion.
  4. Policy changes that can enhance the participation of women in international trade.
